Connect your devices and people: how I created my home network - Amazing! (OLD HOME)

Updated: Jun 6, 2023

With having recently moved into what I would consider a larger than normal home, I wanted to make sure that I could support the various devices and users with high-speed connectivity. Having over 60+ Smart and connected devices requires the right networking and WiFi hardware. Below is a graphic that highlights my solution and one that I would recommend to ensure you have plenty of internet connectivity and WiFi coverage inside the house or outside in the front or back of your property.

Home Internet

Our home internet connection has been a challenge and unfortunately our neighborhood service provider currently only supports DSL internet service. The maximum speed available for our house is up to 20 Mbps Down and 1.5 Mbps Up. For the last few years, I have been looking for alternatives and recently was able to get the T-Mobile 4G Home Internet service. Truly a game changer for the house in which I see almost 5 times faster downloads and 50 x uploads. On average I see about 100 Mbps Down and 50 Mbps Up. With Gigabit Internet fairly common these days, I am sure that some of you are thinking only 100 Mbps... but it way better than 20 and it does serve the home really well. I am anxious to get the upcoming 5G version once it is available.

Look forward to an upcoming post on my experience with T-Mobile Home Internet and the pros and cons of the service.

Wifi Mesh Network

With a fairly large home, approximately 4,000 sq.ft., numerous outdoor living spaces, along with more than 60+ devices, my home needed a proper wireless network system. After some research and some testing, the Netgear Orbi System was just the right choice. Some of the key features include; simple and easy to use interface, integrated Netgear Armor powered Bitdefender for cybersecurity and Parental Controls with Circle®.

I have some dedicated posts planned to cover the Netgear Orbi System, the Armor feature as well as the parental controls by Circle. These features are ideal for my household to provide quality service, internet security as well as manage and protect my family and their devices.
